Tile Installation – From Basic to Wow!
Choosing a great type of tile flooring for your home is only part of the process – you also need to consider how the same tile can take on very different appearances depending on the method of tile installation chosen. The pattern in which it is laid, adding borders, adding accents and even grout choices can make a tile project go from basic to wow!
- Placement – Tile can be laid in a regular manner, but often you will find it a real advantage to consider diagonal or offset options, along with interspersing other tile sizes. Tiles of the same style are often available in more than one size, so you should be sure to consider which will look best. Another way to use placement to get a more unique appearance is to select more than one style or color. There are also tiles available in uncommon shapes, such as hexagons.
- Borders and Accents – Most tile styles have complementary accessories that can be used to create a luxurious appearance. A border can be used around the perimeter of a room, between rooms or to make central focal point where the tile might be placed at a different angle than the surrounding tiles. Accent tiles can also be used to add a luxurious appearance. Adding a mosaic is another way to get a fantastic result.
- Grout – There are a few things to consider about grout, as well. You can get an entirely different look by going with a contrasting grout color for your tile installation project. For example, a white tile with a white grout may look ordinary, but substitute a black grout, and you now have something very eye catching. The width of the grout lines can also be adjusted to get a different appearance.
