When you are shopping for hardwood flooring, you will notice that you have two choices when it comes to hardwood finishing. You can purchase a product that comes already finished as the multiple layers have been taken care of at the factory already. Alternatively, you can go with an unfinished product and have the hardwood finishing done after installation. There are advantages of each for you to consider.
- Pre-Finished Hardwood Flooring – The main advantage of using a pre-finished product is the ease and speed of installation. Your floors will be ready to walk on immediately without the mess involved with on-site hardwood finishing. Because installation is easier, you’ll save on the labor costs portion of the project. Some of this savings must go to the material cost, however, because the prefinished product is generally more costly than the unfinished.
- Unfinished Hardwood Flooring – Going this route has a number of advantages, including more options and sealed seams so debris doesn’t accumulate between boards. Repairs are easier since these products are rarely discontinued like pre-finished can be, and a custom installation can be done, which is not usually possible with pre-finished products. Additionally, you can choose the exact type of hardwood finishing product you prefer.
At Wright’s Carpet and Flooring, we offer both types of hardwood flooring and we do hardwood finishing at installation or afterwards when it is time for a sanding and refinishing to be done. With our Shop at Home service, you can see the products available in your own home so you can see how they’ll look compared to cabinetry and the lighting you have.
